There is no more Usamah. He has gone, leaving a million of expressions on the world population. From the possessed and frenetic due to happiness, to the bowed and weak as if in disbelief. His departure separates, once again, separates which are friends and which are foes, and which are opponents that pretends to be friends. As well as separating which are the people who are serious in jihad, and which are those who are only enthusiastic because of a symbol.
The hullabaloos are now starting to subside, leaving two groups which have the determinations of steel. Whether it be the determination to uphold the kalimah of Allah, or those who vowed to continue the struggle to extinguish the light of tawheed. The war continues, even without the symbol of an Usamah. That's how it goes, because both opposing sides are committed to continue their struggles.
However, what had been missing from the conversation, particularly among Islamic activists, is a case study. Why Usamah, who was agreed upon as an icon of jihad—who automatically was also an icon of American enemy—the number one, could be touchable to the enemies? What actually happened, how come the protection for Usamah could crumble? So, what has been done by the Taliban all this while as the host and also Al-Qaidah in protecting him? This study is not to challenge the Taqdeer (destiny). At least it is for the following reasons:
Firstly, evaluation. Notwithstanding, an evaluation (Islamic activists feel more comfortable by calling it muhasabah), whether it be for the internal of Al-Qaidah and the Taliban themselves, or for the jihad tandzims all over the world, is noteworthy. Al-Qaidah has become the qibla for those tandzims. In fact, some of their programs are sometimes right away copy-pasted without considering whether they are suitable or not to be done in their specific regions.
Therefore, if Al-Qaidah could unravel the reasons for that technical tragedy of 2nd May 2011, the tandzims just now would be able to anticipate it for the security of their figures. On the other hand, when there is no official response, what remain are only guesses, without any significant progress for the security patterns of the jihad tandzims in the future. Or, what's there is only dejection and astonishment by the greatness of America —because the available news are only sourced from them.
Secondly, closing the door of fitnah and prejudice. Especially after the spread of the news of a betrayal by Ayman Zawahiri. For the advocates of jihad, they have become accustomed to not swallow crudely those news where its truth is unclear. However, if there is an official release about the above muhasabah, not to mention a personal statement from Zawahiri responding to such fitnah—as well as other fitnahs regarding the split in Al-Qaidah post-Usamah, would make the activists of jihad more composed. The composure of the hearts, not distrust, just like when Prophet Ibrahim asked to be shown the existence of Allah.
Thirdly, Usamah bin Ladin does not only belongs to those who are officially affiliated with Al-Qaidah. He is a charismatic figure in the eyes of many Islamic movements. Due to that, it is just natural that as the “owner”, the Islamic ummah receive a concrete accountability for the loss of their leader who had been "entrusted" to Al-Qaidah and the Taliban.
It sure takes time for an underground organization like Al-Qaidah to consolidate their members, relating to the evaluation and disaster that befell them. But the most fundamental for jihad activists generally is the importance of a muhasabah. Do not get complacent—and fall into the same hole twice— for closing the door of muhasabah. Closing its door, only because of believing that the shaheed people have obtained a noble life in the presence of their Lord. Fullstop!
