If the logic of the law of the jungle in international relations becomes a justification for murder, it is very dangerous.
An ulama' who is branded as radical by the West, Anwar al Awlaki, has been reportedly killed in Yemen. The certainty of the news of Anwar's death is also still a mystery. The families and clan of Awlaki stated that they had not found any evidence that Anwar had been killed. However, America claimed to have killed the ulama' who has the American citizenship. Anwar al-Awlaki, an American born ulama', who is also a citizen of one of the tribes in Yemen, had long been hunted by America who accused him of being a terrorist with a global specialization. President Obama had personally ordered for his killing, so it was reported. The apparatuses of Yemen themselves had been chasing after him since December 2007.
The killing of Anwar al Awlaki raises controversy in America itself. Is it justified for a president to order for the killing of an American citizen in the name of war against terrorism. A senior American official asserted to the Washington Post that the CIA is not allowed to kill any American citizen, without a written permission from the Ministry of Justice. In the view of Pardes Kypriaa, lawyer at the Center for Constitutional Rights, if this murder occurred in the absence of threat or danger of death, then it is regarded as illegal murder under the American Constitution and international law.
Regardless of the internal debate, for us, the murder of Anwar al Awlaki shows the 'law of the jungle' in the current order of international relations. He who is strong will be in power. America, with all its arrogance, in the name of war on terror, has the right to do whatever they want. Intervening in a country and killing its populations who are unilaterally accused by America as terrorists and radicals, like what America is doing in Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan-Pakistan.
The question is, on what basis does America has the right to do that? Who appointed them to be the police of the world, which gives them the right to punish all the people in the world, based on the perceptions of America? Since when have the citizens of Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, become the nationals of America, that they are entitled to be punished by the police of the world, America? Not to mention that the majority of the parties accused as terrorists, have not been proven by a court!
The accusation of terrorism is highly biased. Israel which had killed more than 1,500 Palestinians in Gaza in a matter of days is not called terrorist. While Hamas which struggled to repel the invader Israelis from their country are accused as terrorists. Whereas, the casualties caused by Israel are far more numerous.
Indeed, for America, anyone who threatens the existence of their colonialism would be charged as a terrorist. Including those who want to struggle for the Shari'ah and the Khilafah. Like what was stated by Henry Kissinger, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (1969-1975) to Hindustan Times (2004). According to him, the so-called terrorism in America is actually the rise of radical Islam against the secular world and democratic world, in the name of such re-establishment of the Caliphate. (Hindustan Times, November 2004).
This logic of 'the law of the jungle' in international relations which becomes a justification for this killing is also very dangerous. If using the self-justification that Anwar was accused as a terrorist, as he has been calling for the killings of American citizens, then it would be legitimate too if the other party proclaimed that Bush or Obama are also terrorists who are also entitled to be killed. Remembering that Bush and Obama did not only call for but they have also sent tens of thousands of American troops to Iraq and Afghanistan-Pakistan. Due to the American occupations, nearly one million people were killed.
If the self-justification was to hunt for terrorists, which gives America the right to intervene against other countries, attack other countries and kill the inhabitants of other countries, surely with the same logic, other parties also have the right to attack America with the excuse of hunting for terrorists. Such logic will inevitably lead to chaos in the world order, as is happening now.
‘Ala kullli hal (however), for us Muslims, the killing of Anwar al Awlaki, the massacres in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Palestine, for any reason by the colonial powers of America and its allies, must be stopped. Allah SWT highly values human life. To the extent that Rasulullah SAW said that the destruction of the earth along with its contents is lighter for Allah compared with the killing of a human life.
These mass murders were possible because of the treachery of the rulers of Islamic countries who give way for the imperialist countries to kill their own subjects. These traitors prefer to please their imperialist masters. Therefore they do not deserve to be the leaders of the ummah.
It's high time for these traitor rulers to be unseated and the Muslims give bai'at to a Khalifah who will implement the Islamic Shari'ah. Because, only with the system of Khilafah that the Islamic ummah could unite, because this system stipulates one leader for the entire Islamic world under the provisions of the Islamic Shari'ah. The Khalifah will become al junnah (the shield) who protects his subjects even if it is only one person.
The absence of the Khilafah has made the Islamic ummah lose their international political power. Thus the countries of the Muslims are treated so imperiously by the imperialist countries. They plunder their natural resources. Not satisfied with that, they killed the Muslims who are considered against their colonialism, destroying the countries of the Muslims. Do we remain silent?
