Malaysian Cameraman Shot Dead By African Union Soldiers In Somalia

MOGADISHU – A Malaysian TV cameraman for Bernama TV, was shot dead on Friday (2/9/2011) and another was wounded, by the despicable African Union troops in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, said eye-witnesses and volunteers, as reported by Reuters.

Muhideen Mohamed, who works with a Malaysian charity body, the Malaysian Putera1, said the cameraman had been killed by the African Union (AMISOM) troops who were patrolling the city.

“The AMISOM has killed a Malaysian journalist and injured another at the intersection between K4 and the Mogadishu airport on Friday,” said Mohamed, local coordinator of the aid group, Reuters reported.

The AMISOM troops equipped with armored vehicles were on their way to the airport when they opened fire at the vehicle of the journalists, Mohamed continued .

“Two bullets hit the journalist, one in the head and another in the shoulder. He died on the spot ,” he said, adding that the second journalist suffered gunshot wounds in his arm.

Spokesman for the AMISOM said that they know about the shootings, but they claimed to be investigating the case. “We are investigating who fired the shots, was it the AMISOM or other group,” claimed Prosper Hakizimana, deputy spokesman of the AMISOM crusaders.

A statement on the Malaysian news website, Bernama said that a cameraman, Noramfaizul Mohd Nor (39) was undertaking a humanitarian mission for the famine victims in Somalia.

An eyewitness said the volunteers are well known in the area. “The Malaysian car veered into the smaller lane in front of my shop when the AMISOM convoy opened fire at them,” said a shop owner, Mohamed Ali. “I know they are volunteers because they always come this way.”

This is not the first time that the AMISOM crusader soldiers committed murder against civilians or foreign volunteers. There have been several previous cases where the AMISOM soldiers killed civilians (as all Crusaders do) in Somalia.
